1. Can you tell us about what surprises we can find in Full English Beat
Breakfast?
Well there are a few treats we have cooked up: Double Bass and Grand piano
grooves with “Pies and Pastiche”, Northern Soul style vibes with “Black
eye”, 60’s library moods with “Slap head’s Demise” along with French-Beat
on “C'est Moi”, Italian film style “Vampiros Twist” as well as the usual
spaced-out Hammond floor-stomper tunes on tracks like “Hairy Mary” and
“Beat Breakfast” and “Clown Face”.
And what is for you a perfect breakfast? Well in the UK:
Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Black-Pudding, Bloater, Bubble and Squeak, Baked
Beans, Mushrooms, + plenty of Tea and Toast, but if we are anywhere else
in the World we’ll have whatever the local folk are eating!
2. You play many instruments, are member of two bands, have recorded (if
we are not wrong) half a dozen of albums... Are you in conditions to
explain that what is called “music”?
o There have been a few LPs over the years! From the Loafers back in the
day to Bongolian and Big Boss Man now, the connection is a passion for
uplifting music that people can get into and dance to.
3. What two records would you recommend to somebody who has no idea about
what is “funk”?
(almost) Anything by James Brown, - perhaps “Funky Drummer” or “give it up
or turn it a loose” but also check out the New Orleans Funk of the Meters
and the like.
4. The most embarrassing record in your personal collection is..
White Wedding – Billy Idol, how about a Hammond version of that?
5. We are hoping to see you soon touring with the band on Spanish stages.
Meanwhile, can you tell us if you remember specially any gig in Spain? For
what reason?
Well it is always cool playing at the Playa Club in Coruna -a cool club
with fab people. On our first tour in 2002,our van broke down there after
the show and we were due to play in at Helldorado in Vitoria the next day,
everyone at the Playa club helped get the van sorted but we still didn’t
get to leave town until 18:00, we drove non-stop 100’s of Km and finally
arrived at Vitoria at about 02:30 the next day (hours late). The crowd
helped us on stage with the equipment, then after quick “refreshments”, we
went straight on. That definitely wouldn’t happen in the UK! Hopefully we
come back to Spain In March 2010 our friends at I-Wanna and Trouble & Tea
are hooking it up.
6. And finally, is the international hammond sound scene in good health?
Is there any new band we should pay atention to.
The Hammond Scene keeps on Burning, Lonnie Smith from the USA is holding
the torch! In Europe , Link Quartet are still making groovy sounds and
from Australia there’s “Cooking on 3 Burners”
